There were 198,000 commercial aircraft movements at Brussels Airport in 2025. Since April 2023, we have applied strongly differentiated airport charges, with the quietest aircraft paying up to 20 times less than the noisiest aircraft. This way, we want to give airlines a strong incentive to use more modern, quieter and less polluting aircraft at Brussels Airport.
The share of flights operated with the most noise-efficient aircraft has increased from 32% in 2023 to 42% in 2025. This means that today, 42% of all flights use the most noise-efficient aircraft, such as the A320neo. An increase of 10 percentage points in just two years. Over the past decade, the share of flights operated by the most noise efficient aircraft has doubled: from 20% in 2016, when differentiated charges were first introduced, to 42% in 2025.This confirms that airline fleet renewal and a proactive policy on airport charges are yielding tangible results year after year.
This is an important development that shows that growth can go hand in hand with reducing environmental impact, thanks to the efforts of both the airport and the airlines.
In addition, we will continue our efforts to reduce ground noise with the further electrification of ground support equipment, a ground run-up enclosure and additional noise barriers in the coming years.
