The Brussels Airport Fund, managed by the King Baudouin Foundation, is supporting eleven sustainable and social projects in the area around the airport this year. Together, they receive €100,000. An independent jury selected the initiatives from 43 entries. To get to know the laureates better, we invited them for a guided tour of the airport.

From sustainable community gardens to cycling lessons for vulnerable groups
After a thorough analysis of the applications received, the jury selected a mix of projects that bring people and communities together around themes such as nature, the environment and sustainable mobility.
These are the eleven selected initiatives:
- Le Courtileke is implementing a neighbourhood composting initiative in Kraainem,
with educational workshops that reduce waste and bring neighbours together.
- Ter Ursulinen (De Buurtwinkel) is developing an intergenerational community garden in the heart of Brussels, where neighbours grow vegetables together and connect.
- De Windroos KOV vzw is greening its school grounds in Machelen and promoting outdoor learning in collaboration with the local community.
- Parckfarm T&T is strengthening a Brussels neighbourhood with a shared vegetable garden where students, residents, and volunteers learn and create together.
- Nido vzw is developing an inclusive care garden in Haren, bringing together people with disabilities, young people, and local residents.
- KieM Montessori is transforming its playground in Kessel-Lo into a green, biodiverse learning and living space for hundreds of children.
- Fédération bruxelloise des professionnel.le.s de l’Agriculture Urbaine (FedeAU) is organising a festival that makes urban agriculture visible and invites citizens to meet and participate.
- Vers’ailes from Neder-over-Heembeek is boosting the confidence of beginner female cyclists through traffic lessons, practical workshops, and shared cycling moments.
- Adem vzw – Ademhof is building a shared garden in Wezemaal where residents with intellectual disabilities and neighbours meet in a green setting.
