Work on the new passenger drop-off area kicks off

Infrastructure

On 8 September, preparatory work began at Brussels Airport for the construction of a new passenger drop-off area behind the Sheraton hotel. This is the first step in the realisation of the major infrastructure project “Hub 3.0”, which will significantly change the airport's appearance.

The new drop-off area, where drivers can park for up to ten minutes free of charge to drop off their passengers, will be located behind the Sheraton Hotel at departure level, providing convenient access to the departure hall which will significantly improve passenger experience. The new drop-off area will also be larger than the current one to accommodate the expected growth in passenger numbers.

New access road to ensure smooth traffic flows

During the first stage of the works, a slip road will be built on the A201, which connects the Brussels ring road to the airport. This dedicated exit will provide direct access to the future drop-off area, ensuring smoother traffic flows as traffic to the Drop-off will be separated from the other traffic.

A bridge will link the slip road directly to the new drop-off area located behind the Sheraton Hotel at terminal level. The new area will be carefully landscaped with plants, benches, and an assistance point for travellers with reduced mobility.

First realisation of Hub 3.0

The new drop-off area is scheduled for completion in early October 2026. Once it is operational, the current drop-off area, built in 2016,  will make way for the construction of an intermodal hub where train, tram, and bus services will conveniently come together in the future.

In addition to the new drop-off area and intermodal hub, the Hub 3.0 project also includes an extension of the departure and arrival halls, a new hotel, and a green boulevard with a park. The entire project should be completed by 2032 at the latest.
