From 12 July to 27 August 2025, we will be carrying out renovation works on runway 07R/25L. What does that mean for you?
From July 12 to August 27, 2025, Brussels Airport will carry out major renovation works on runway 07R/25L, the southernmost runway of the airport and one of the main runways for take-offs and landings. Runway 07R/25L will receive a new asphalt surface, upgraded lighting, and improved drainage. These works are essential to maintain the safety and smooth operation of air traffic.
During the renovation period, runway 07R/25L will be completely closed to air traffic. In addition, from August 2 to August 12, runway 01/19 will also be temporarily unavailable.
These works will also affect you as neighbour. That’s why we’d like to explain what you should expect.
As a rule, renovation works will take place from Monday to Saturday, from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. However, to avoid delays, night and Sunday work may occasionally be required. This will be the case from August 2 to August 12. During this time, runway 01/19 will also be closed, as work will be carried out at the intersection with the renovated runway.
A project of this scale requires a large amount of materials, which means you may notice increased truck traffic, particularly in Nossegem and Steenokkerzeel.
To ensure safe and smooth traffic flows, temporary traffic lights will be installed at the intersection of Namenstraat and Mechelsesteenweg. Speed-reducing measures will also be implemented to protect pedestrians and cyclists.
With one of the main runways temporarily out of service, runway use at Brussels Airport will be adjusted. skeyes, the air traffic control provider, will determine which runways are used, based on availability, traffic levels, and especially weather conditions. Safety always remains the top priority.
Here’s what to expect:
Specific periods to note:
If weather conditions do not allow for these configurations, skeyes will implement an alternative solution that ensures flight safety.
During the works, landings on runway 07L will follow a special satellite-based navigation procedure (RNP, Required Navigation Performance). This is necessary because this runway does not have a precision approach system. The procedure is fully compliant with European safety regulations. All other flight procedures will remain unchanged.
We understand that these works may have an impact on your daily life. That’s why we are committed to keeping you informed in a transparent way. You can follow updates on runway use, weather conditions, and the progress of the works at: www.batc.be.
