Preparatory work has begun at Brussels Airport for the construction of a new drop-off area behind the Sheraton hotel. The new drop-off is the first stage in the realisation of the Hub 3.0 infrastructure project.
The new drop-off area - where one can park for up to ten minutes free of charge to drop off passengers - will be located at departure level. This will allow travellers to reach the departure hall comfortably, which will considerably improve passenger experience. The new drop-off area will also be larger to accommodate growing passenger numbers.
New access road for smooth traffic flow
In the initial phase of the works, a slip road off the A201 that connects the ring road R0 with the airport, will be built. This will separates traffic to the drop-off area from other traffic, ensuring a smoother flow. From there, a bridge will link the slip road directly to the new drop-off area located behind the Sheraton Hotel at departure level. The area will also be attractively landscaped with plants and seating areas. A dedicated assistance point for passengers with reduced mobility will also be provided.
First phase of Hub 3.0 development
The new drop-off area is scheduled for completion by early October 2026. Until then, the current drop-off area will remain operational. During the works, the public car parks P1, P2, and P3 will also remain accessible. Once the new drop-off is operational, the current drop-off, built in 2016, will make way for the construction of an intermodal hub where train, tram, and bus services will converge in the future.
The new drop-off marks the first phase of the large-scale infrastructure project Hub 3.0. In addition to the new drop-off area and intermodal hub, the Hub 3.0 project also includes an extension of the departure and arrival halls, a new hotel, and a green boulevard with a park.
The entire project should be completed by 2032 at the latest.
