Construction starts on airport tram line

Work began last week on the airport tram line. The 12-kilometre tram line will take passengers from Brussels-North to our airport in 30 minutes. The new F201 cycle highway will be built alongside the tram line. This will create a new link between the airport, the business parks along the A201 and the existing public transport network in Brussels.

At Brussels Airport, we connect our country with the rest of the world. But it is just as important that we are also well connected to all regions and cities within our own country. The airport tram is a vital link in this regard. The tram’s terminus will be located in the new intermodal hub, which is part of our HUB 3.0 project and brings all modes of transport together in a single location.

Flemish Minister for Mobility and Public Works Annick De Ridder and Brussels Airport CEO Arnaud Feist attended the groundbreaking ceremony. During his speech, Arnaud Feist said he was particularly pleased that the tram line, which will directly connect Brussels Airport and the surrounding businesses with our capital, is another step closer to becoming a reality.

“Brussels Airport aims to be an airport that is easily accessible to everyone. The Airport Tram offers travellers, employees and visitors a new, comfortable way to reach Brussels Airport. This strengthens our role as an international airport and improves mobility in the region."

The first phase of the works will begin near our airport and along the Brussels Ring Road.

Cycle and tram bridges will be built, meaning traffic on a section of the Ring Road will temporarily use narrowed lanes, with a speed limit of 70 km/h.

The works will run until 2031, with the tram itself coming into service from 2031/2032.
