2.4 million passengers in August

Over 2.4 million passengers passed through Brussels Airport in August. This brings the total for July and August to 4.9 million passengers, up 6% on the summer of 2023.

The summer holidays got off to a flying start in July, with particularly high passenger numbers. This momentum was maintained through August: no less than 2,415,871 passengers passed through Brussels Airport last month, up 7% on August 2023.

The top 3 most popular destinations in August remain unchanged from 2023: Spain, Türkiye and Greece.

Flight movements

The number of passenger flights was up by 5% compared with 2023. With an average of 151 passengers per flight, three more than in August 2023, the month of August almost reached the all-time record for passengers per flight (152), set in July this year.

The number of cargo flights decreased slightly by 0.9% compared to August 2023.  

Cargo volumes: slight decline of 3% compared to August 2023

In August, flown air cargo volumes at Brussels Airport fell slightly by 3% to 47,500 tonnes. This decline is balanced by the 6% growth recorded in July.

The full-cargo segment decreased by 12%, while belly cargo grew by a significant 26%.
