2,002,540 passengers in September

After July and August, September is the third month in a row with more than 2 million passengers!

In September, 2,002,540 million passengers passed through Brussels Airport, which is 80% of the number of passengers in September 2019. The strong recovery in passenger traffic that we saw during the summer holidays has continued after the holiday period, and business traffic too started to pick up again in September. In addition, there was still a higher number of travellers from the Netherlands who chose Brussels Airport to avoid the large crowds at Dutch airports.

The transfer segment has also recovered strongly in recent months: 17% of the departing passengers are transfer passengers, a figure that is comparable to that of September 2019.

Spain, Italy and Turkiye lead the Top 10.

The ten most popular countries in September were respectively Spain, Italy, Turkiye, Germany, Greece, Portugal, the United States, France, Morocco and the United Kingdom. Turkiye, Greece, Morocco and the United States in particular outperformed September 2019 results.

60,000 tonnes of cargo transported

Cargo traffic at Brussels Airport decreased by 5% in September compared to September 2021 and increased by 30% compared to 2019. In the full freighter segment we see a small decrease of 3%, while integrator traffic dropped by 13%. Belly cargo, on the other hand, increased by 9%.

Number of flights up by 24%

The total number of flight movements in September 2022 has increased by 24% compared to September 2021, to 17,377 flight movements, but this is still a drop of 19% compared to September 2019.

The number of passenger flights is 75% of the number of passenger flights in September 2019. The number of passengers per flight averages 142 passengers per flight, compared to 132 in 2019. The occupancy rate of the flights continues to rise, as does the deployment of larger aircraft.

National industrial action on Wednesday 25 June

What is the situation?

Due to the national industrial action on Wednesday 25 June in which the staff of the security service provider is participating, we unfortunately expect major disruptions to our airport operations on that day.

What does this mean for my flight?

To ensure the safety of passengers and staff, we have decided, in consultation with the airlines, not to operate any departing flights on 25 June. The airlines will contact passengers directly to inform them of their options.

Arriving passenger flights

As departing passenger flights are cancelled, cancellations are also possible on some arriving flights. We advise all passengers to check the status of their flight with their airline or on our website or the app.

The flight overview on our website will show cancellations only once they are registered by the airline.

Public transport

Significant disruption to public transport is expected. Please consult the website of  NMBS/SNCB and De Lijn for the latest information regarding their services.

We regret the inconvenience caused by this action.
