Since April 2023, Brussels Airport has applied strongly differentiated airport charges, with the quietest aircraft paying up to 20 times less than the noisiest aircraft. A strong incentive for airlines to use more modern, quieter and less polluting aircraft at Brussels Airport.
An approach that is bearing fruit. In 2025, 42% of the 198,000 commercial flights at Brussels Airport were operated by the most noise efficient aircraft such as the A320neo. An increase of 10 percentage points in just two years.
Compared to 2016, when differentiated charges were first introduced at Brussels Airport, their share has more than doubled (from 20% to 42% last year).
This is an important development that shows that growth can go hand in hand with reducing environmental impact, thanks to a proactive policy on airport charges and the efforts made by the airlines.
