Brussels Airport opens new 8-storey car park

This morning the new car park was officially opened. Tomorrow 28 March the car rental services will be the first to occupy the new building.

Anyone travelling to the airport by car will have noticed: Brussels Airport’s Iconic B is now illuminating the façade of the new car park.

With 90.000m², spread over 8 floors, the building, opposite the current drop-off area, offers more than 2,500 parking spaces for both car rental companies and airport staff.

The car rental companies will be the first to move in. Their vehicles will be transferred from Car Park P2 to the new building tomorrow, 28 March. From 9 pm tomorrow evening, you will also find their service poinrt and offices there. Henceforth, all car rental services will be centralised in a single location, which will significantly enhance comfort and the experience for travellers.

6,000 m² of solar panels and 650 charging points

To allow for the construction of the new car park, the former parking lot on the site was first demolished, with a focus on circularity. In addition to the circular approach to demolition, sustainable technologies were also used in the development of the new building. 6,000 m² of solar panels have been installed on the roof, generating 1,150 MWh per year. A special non-reflective film has been applied to the solar panels to prevent the glare from the sun affecting visibility for the pilots. In total, 650 charging points for electric vehicles will also be installed.

With this new parking facility, Brussels Airport is taking a concrete step within Hub 3.0. The centralisation of car hire companies creates space for the future expansion of the arrivals hall and the development of an intermodal hub, where different modes of transport (train, tram, bus, bicycle, and car) will be optimally integrated. In a next phase, a pedestrian bridge will also be constructed to directly connect the car park with the terminal.
