Brussels Airport Marathon goes virtual

Our sponsorship of the Brussels Airport Marathon postponed until 2021

The 3rd edition of the Brussels Airport Marathon & Half Marathon was scheduled to take place in October this year. However, the current COVID-19 pandemic threw a spanner in the works.

While the coronavirus is still circulating, Golazo - the organiser of the Brussels Airport Marathon - has been forced this year to adapt the organisation of the race to guarantee the safety of the runners. The running event that we sponsored as title sponsor in 2018 and 2019 will be replaced this year by a virtual edition.

Although Brussels Airport is not sponsoring this event this year, Golazo decided to call this year’s edition the ‘Virtual Brussels Airport Marathon & Half Marathon’.

From 28 September to 4 October 2020, participants from all over the world are invited to run 10 km, 21 km or 42.195 km whenever and wherever they want and (re)discover Brussels. The ‘Brussels City Route’ takes them along many of the Brussels Capital Region's prime locations. It will be a combination of famous city landmarks and many well-known as well as a few hidden green gems.

Signing up for the Virtual Brussels Airport Marathon & Half Marathon is possible as from Tuesday 7 July 2020. More info: https://www.brusselsairportmarathon.be/en/.

The real experience that characterizes this event in normal times and the cosy atmosphere we seek for our community will of course be absent. Moreover, sponsoring this international event is a considerable financial effort at a time when we are striving to cut costs.

That is why the sponsoring of the Brussels Airport Marathon, in its original form, has been postponed. We hope we can count on the motivation of the many colleagues and members of our community who had signed up to participate, to resume their training and defend the colours of Brussels Airport during the next edition in 2021.

National industrial action on Wednesday 25 June

What is the situation?

Due to the national industrial action on Wednesday 25 June in which the staff of the security service provider is participating, we unfortunately expect major disruptions to our airport operations on that day.

What does this mean for my flight?

To ensure the safety of passengers and staff, we have decided, in consultation with the airlines, not to operate any departing flights on 25 June. The airlines will contact passengers directly to inform them of their options.

Arriving passenger flights

As departing passenger flights are cancelled, cancellations are also possible on some arriving flights. We advise all passengers to check the status of their flight with their airline or on our website or the app.

The flight overview on our website will show cancellations only once they are registered by the airline.

Public transport

Significant disruption to public transport is expected. Please consult the website of  NMBS/SNCB and De Lijn for the latest information regarding their services.

We regret the inconvenience caused by this action.
