Inauguration of triple boarding bridge

On 19 April 2018, Brussels Airport inaugurated its brand-new triple boarding bridge. The bridge is part of the €52 million multi-year investment programme for the installation of new boarding bridges at pier B. Thanks to the new bridge, passengers can board and get off the plan faster, which enhances their travel comfort.

The new boarding bridge is located at gates B31 and 33 and constitutes the first phase of the modernization of passenger boarding bridges at pier B, where intercontinental flights arrive. To limit the impact on the operational capacity of the airport as much as possible, the bridges are being replaced in stages. These large-scale works are important in order to meet the technological developments in the airline industry. They are moreover fully in line with the strategy of Brussels Airport to improve the comfort of our customers, passengers and airlines. Apart from the latest technological marvels, the bridge also features large windows that give it a modern look, whilst affording the passengers a unique view of the tarmac.

The new boarding bridge will be used to accommodate wide-bodies including Airbus A330 and A350 and Boeing B777 and B787. Moreover, it can receive the world’s largest passenger aircraft such as the A380. With two floors and three ramps, both decks of the A380 can be disembarked or boarded simultaneously. To demonstrate the functioning of the triple boarding bridge, Emirates exceptionally operated its Dubai – Brussels flight with an A380 in Real Madrid livery.
