Building the airport experience of the future

As an airport in the heart of Europe, we want to continue investing in the future of our airport. To prepare for the expected growth in passenger numbers, we are launching an ambitious investment project: Hub 3.0.

The first phase of Hub 3.0 is a construction project that will make our airport even more pleasant for everyone: passengers, employees, visitors, commuters, and the airport community.

We are expanding the terminal, creating a larger arrivals hall, and developing a green boulevard leading to the intermodal hub. A new hotel is also planned to meet the growing demand. Completion is scheduled for 2032..

A glimpse of our airport of tomorrow

As a mobility hub where all transport modes converge, Brussels Airport plays a key role. These modes include planes, trains, buses, cyclists, pedestrians, cars, taxis and shuttle buses.

Our aim is to further expand our role as an intermodal transport hub for both passengers and airport employees. The construction of the intermodal hub will make the airport even more accessible by public transport.

The project includes a new connection from the terminal to the train station, a redesigned central bus station and a stop for the future tram line. Above all, it will provide generous open spaces to ensure smooth flow in and out of the terminal.

In a few years' time, the area currently occupied by the summer terrace will be covered by the iconic cloud-shaped roof, the intermodal hub's most striking feature.

The departure and arrival halls are being expanded and will be connected to the intermodal transport hub. The current Diamant building will be extended to include the area currently occupied by a car park and lawn. This will ensure that those arriving by public transport have smooth access to the arrival and departure halls.

There will also be additional space for check-in and for passengers with reduced mobility.

The arrivals hall will be transformed into an open, welcoming space with plenty of daylight and a beautiful view of the tarmac. Thanks to clear signage, they will easily find their way to the train, bus or tram, or to the redesigned taxi zone.

The access road to the intermodal hub, the last section of Ringlaan, will be transformed into an inviting, green boulevard with wide cycle paths and space for the future airport tram. This will make it much more attractive to commute to the airport by public transport or bicycle. In addition, the abundance of greenery will ensure natural water infiltration. Along the boulevard, there will also be a pleasant park where employees can stretch their legs during their breaks.

To meet the growing demand, the project also includes a four-star hotel with around 300 rooms. Together with the existing Sheraton hotel, this will provide a wider range of accommodation for passengers. In addition to the hotel, an additional office building will also be constructed in the longer term.

Sustainability, quality and experience are the keywords in this project.

Maximum use will be made of natural daylight, sustainable materials and future-proof technologies, including water infiltration, heat pumps and solar panels for power supply.

In the first phase, the current drop-off zone will move to a new, more spacious location behind the Sheraton hotel. This will separate drop-off traffic from other traffic flows and give passengers easy access to the departure hall. Work on this will start at the end of this year and should be completed by the end of 2026.

The intermodal hub will be ready between 2028 and 2030, with work starting at the earliest at the end of 2026.

The extension of the terminal and the hotel will be completed between 2030 and 2032.

The entire project must therefore be completed by 2032.

This investment will further enhance Brussels Airport's reputation as a leading airport hub in the heart of Europe and make it an even more pleasant place to work for every employee and partner who is part of our beating heart.
