We will always remember 22/3

Commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of 22 March 2016

On 22 March 2026, exactly 10 years will have passed since the bloody terrorist attacks that struck Brussels Airport and the Maalbeek metro station. A day etched in our memories forever.

On Sunday 22 March we will take a moment together to remember the victims of these tragic events. This year, the commemoration will be extra special: the royal couple and the Prime Minister will also be present.

We call on all colleagues from the airport community to join us in participating in the commemoration and show our solidarity with the victims and the families who have been permanently affected by these events.

Join us in forming a human chain

At 6.40 a.m., firefighters, security staff and colleagues from Brussels Airport and the airport community will form a human chain between the Sheraton hotel and the terminal, as a sign of solidarity and respect for all victims and their families.

Commemoration ceremony

The official ceremony will then begin at 7 a.m. in the terminal, in the presence of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, the Prime Minister, victims and their families. Speeches will be given, a memorial plaque will be unveiled and flowers will be laid.
The King and Queen will also take the time to meet with the families.

We will conclude the morning with a moment or connection at the Sheraton Hotel.

Book of condolence

If you would like to leave a personal message, you can do so in the book of condolence that will be placed near the commemorative plaque in the departure hall.

Those who are unable to attend the ceremony can share words of sympathy for the families of the victims in this online online book of condolence. Anyone who experienced the events firsthand and wishes to express a personal thought is also welcome to do so here.

The horrific events of 22 March 2016 did not defeat us. New bonds were forged, and existing ones strengthened - a powerful reminder of our resilience and the humanity that unites us: together stronger.

Together, we reaffirm our solidarity with everyone affected by these events.
