Throw a rock here and chances are you’ll hit a student! (Not that we recommend it.) For Bologna is the proud owner of Europe’s first university. But Bologna’s biggest claim to fame, of course, is its spaghetti. Made around the world but nowhere like here. Little wonder Bologna has earned the nickname ‘La Grasse’, the fat. ‘La Rossa’ is another, more flattering description referring to the city’s typical red houses and roofs. Maybe from spilling all that spag bol?
