Smurfs land at Brussels Airport

Since this afternoon, Papa Smurf, Smurfette and Baby Smurf have arrived at Brussels Airport to wave off the passengers who leave from Gates B.

In the relaxation and shopping area leading to Pier B, a statue has been put up of the Belgian comic book heroes, the final touch to a thorough renovation of this area.

The statue was unveiled by Brussels Airport CEO Arnaud Feist and Véronique Culliford, the daughter of Peyo, the creator of our tiny blue friends.

The statue is inspired by album 14 from 1990, the "Aerosmurf", in which a red plane plays an important part.

The statue at the airport shows marshaller Papa Smurf as he indicates to the Flying Smurf where to land, while Smurfette is playing with Babysmurf.

With the Smurf statue in the Gallery of Light and the Tintin rocket in Connector, the airport is paying tribute to the rich and internationally renowned comic book culture in Belgium.
