Brussels Airport to build two plane spotting platforms

Brussels Airport attracts dozens of plane spotters every day. To allow them to carry out their hobby in a safe way, Brussels Airport Company held a survey among the spotters to find out where best to construct two spotting platforms. Around 1,700 spotters answered the survey which gave us a pretty good idea of their needs.

In close consultation with the municipalities and the spotters, Brussels Airport identified two sites where a spotting platform can and will be built. Brussels Airport Company will shortly apply for a building permit and, if all goes well, the construction of the platforms will begin in the course of this year.

The platforms will be built with sustainable materials and will also provide general information on the airport. Moreover, a small car park will be constructed at the start of runway 25L so that there are sufficient parking spaces for spotters in Steenokkerzeel.

1. Zaventem

The first spotting platform will be built at runway 01/19, in the area where the "Speelbos" is also located, so that spotters can have an unobstructed view of the runway.

In addition, Brussels Airport will be installing new play equipment for families.

Spotters can make use of the normal parking areas around the wood.

2. Melsbroek (Steenokkerzeel)

The second spotting platform will be constructed in the vicinity of the transit centre Steenokkerzeel near runway 25L/07R.This runway is generally used for landings and the area around this runway is very popular with spotters. To improve the safety of the spotters and of the traffic in this area, the car park near the transit centre will be expanded with a section for the spotters.
