Babies & Kids

Babies

  • Baby-changing facilities are available in the terminal.
  • For heating up baby food, you can find what you need in several of the airport restaurants: Wingtips, Brussels Plaza, Milestone and the Brussels CafĂ©.
  • Airlines limit the number of babies on each flight. Check with your airline well in advance.
  • Some airlines provide special seats or cots for children under two. Check with your airline.

Baby carriage

  • You can take a baby carriage all the way to the aircraft gate.
  • Please note that the baby carriage will be separately checked at the security screening point.
  • For your convenience, the airport staff security checkpoints are also available to passengers travelling with baby carriages.
  • On some flights, collapsible buggies and prams are allowed in the passenger cabin space, on other flights they are stowed away in the baggage hold.
  • Make sure your baby carriage is properly tagged with your identity label, even if you take it as hand luggage.

Unaccompanied children

Children under 5 years of age cannot travel unaccompanied. Children over that age can travel as an "unaccompanied minor". They should be dropped at the airport's departure hall by a parent or guardian and similarly collected at the other end. During their journey they will be under the permanent supervision of airport personnel and cabin crew.

Because of obvious reasons, rigorous procedures are in force here, including a thorough identity control. Ask advice from your travel agent or from the airline.

Near carousel 2 in the baggage reclaim hall a separate waiting room has been fixed up where parents or family can come to collect the unaccompanied child.

Services for parents with a baby

Passengers travelling with a baby can rest assured that the airport has an adapted infrastructure concerning baby care and feeding.
Space is provided in the ladies' toilets to freshen up the baby and to change its nappies.
Every airport restaurant has facilities for heating up baby food and baby bottles. The personnel will be only too happy to help and point you towards a micro-wave oven that is intended for your use, free of charge.

Take along baby products!

Certain requirements for your baby are either not available or in a limited choice at the airport, and often even less so at your destination. This is especially true when you have a preferred brand for nappies, dummies, care products or baby food and when you need specific medication. People travelling with babies or very young children should ensure they pack these sorts of products in their luggage.
It is advisable to pack a sufficient supply. Even short flights can last longer than expected, due to either delays or unforeseen complications.

Babies on board

In principle babies travel free of charge with their mother or father. This does not necessarily mean that there is a separate seat allocated to them. Baby service can differ widely per airline. It is possible that a baby chair or cot is available on board, but this is not always the case for every airline.

The number of babies allowed on board is often limited per flight.

In any event, here too it is also advisable to check out everything with the airline or your travel agent.

Babies and health

It is always advisable to contact your doctor or paediatrician before setting out on a long flight or a flight to an exotic destination with toddlers or babies. A doctor will be able to furnish you with all the necessary advice and assistance regarding your baby's health, medication and vaccinations. Vaccination certificates and instructions for use of medication are best placed in your hand-luggage.

Babies and proof of identity

Everyone intending to take a plane must be in possession of an identity card or passport. This counts for children and babies too!
