For all the parcels of land which the Belgian State sold to Brussels Airport in 2001, the soil and groundwater quality has been systematically charted.
In a few places, soil contamination was found which required sanitation. Meanwhile, the necessary Soil Sanitation Projects were completed and the actual soil sanitation work will start in the coming years.
Every year quite some excavating and earthmoving works take place at the airport. Excavated contaminated soil is processed in a dedicated soil treatment plant. We also call in the help of a soil sanitation expert to guarantee the quality of any soil that is brought in.
