The passage of the Olympic flame through our airport this morning did not go unnoticed. On the occasion of the Special Olympics European Summer games 2014, this most esteemed guest travelled several hundreds of kilometres to land at Brussels Airport this morning.
Here the Olympic flame was welcomed by Belgian Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo who came over to run the first stretch of the torch relay on Belgian soil.
"As airport our main role is to bring together people, families and friends. This feeling of unity is also symbolised by the Olympic Flame. Its passage through the very heart of our daily activities is an important moment in our history. We are honoured that the Special Olympics athletes are sharing this special moment with our airport, our passengers and our collaborators", said Arnaud Feist, CEO of Brussels Airport Company.
This year the Special Olympics Summer games 2014 are held in Antwerp. About 2,000 athletes from Europe and Eurasia are expected in Belgium.
