Flowers and chocolates for the first passengers to use the new RAL

December 23, 2011

Thursday 22 December saw the opening of the new Remote Arrival Lounge (RAL) in pier B. This is where non-Schengen passengers arrive by bus when their aircraft is parked at a remote stand.

The 118 Brussels Airlines passengers arriving from London Heathrow were the first to use the new RAL at gate R5-R6. The first passenger to enter the RAL was offered a bouquet. The other passengers were welcomed with applause and a box of Belgian chocolates, after which they hurried towards their transfer gate or the arrivals hall.

The new remote arrivals lounge is over 200 meters closer to the baggage reclaim hall so passengers do not have to walk as much. It is also more spacious and more comfortable than the old RAL.

Starting early January the former remote arrivals hall will be converted to a new Remote Departures Lounge (RDL), which is to be taken into service by the end of April.
