Automated access control for intra-Schengen passengers

October 18, 2011

Since 16 October, Brussels Airport provides automated access control for passengers travelling to a destination within the Schengen area. Five turnstiles equipped with a 2D barcode reader check the passenger’s boarding card to allow them – or not - into the secure area of pier A.

The new Automated Access system is to facilitate an improved passenger flow.

For now, passengers with reduced mobility, children who travel alone and have to be accompanied to the gate and passengers with babies or toddlers still have to proceed to the desk to have their boarding card checked by the officer.

A separate entrance is provided for airport staff.
