On Tuesday 23 August, the Belgian athletes who defended our colours at the Olympics were honoured at Brussels Airport on their return from Rio. Among the guests, mostly friends and relatives of the athletes, we also recognised prime Minister Charles Michel.
There was a warm welcome for all Team Belgium members but special attention went to heptathlon athlete Nafissatou Thiam (gold medal), swimmer Pieter Timmers (silver), cyclist Jolien D'Hoore (bronze) and the Red Lions hockey team (silver).
Cyclist Greg Van Avermaet (gold medal) and judoka Dirk Van Tichelt (bronze) had already been celebrated on their return a few weeks ago.
